I often take my son sledding at a local private golf course near home. It's right in a city neighborhood but is well hidden from view by terrain and trees.

One day last week I parked further into the parking lot than normal and noticed the golf club's maintenance buildings are set in a bowl off to the side and out of sight of almost the whole course and any of the surrounding houses.

Next to one of the buildings is a 2000L gas tank and pump and another of what I think is diesel.

I wonder how long that little resource would last in an emergency?
Now that you know about it.... <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
Who runs to the golf course if SHTF? Nobody, that's who. Except you <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Could be useful, set up surveillance.
Surveillance? Naaaaw. Adding the golf course to my running route as my running rehab continues? Absolutely.

I wasn't just posting about that particular observation. It's like multi-use equipment.

Keep your eyes open and you'll see all kinds of resources available nearby.

Another odd idea I thought of is what's the safest place in my neighborhood in the HIGHLY UNLIKELY event of a riot or similar disruption?

Answer: public library.

Last one from this week: Emergency source of food, first aid supplies, blankets, OTC medicines and diapers if the supermarkets and stores are emptied and/or forced to be closed?

Answer: Daycare.

Okay, one more:

If for some reason you need a handgun when all hell breaks loose?

Answer: check all the lockers at the local high school
One reason I REALLY like having my diesel Suburban is diesel will be pretty easy to scrounge for after disaster or whatever.. A train with even an "empty" tank may have plenty of fuel left in it..

Big boats, trucks, tractors/heavy machinery, etc will all be holding lots of fuel that most wont be looking for.. Also you can run alot of various fuels in a diesel, from Kerosene to frying oil.. <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Good find! Anytime you can have a fuel cache' thats not known by the masses is a good thing!
also food is kept in teachers desk drawers and in students lockers (I know lol I do)
I think ill have to disagree witht he idea of a Library being a safe place during a riot. Many many movies of SHTF scenarios show looters/rioters burning books/knowledge is the reason for the worlds madness.

A vet/animal doc would also be a good place for some medicins. Most antibiotics for swine will work on humans (this is not personal knowledge only read about it, take for what its worth) .

I concure on the fuel listings above, living near a river as i do i see alot of river bottom farmland here. Alot of farmers will put a 200gal fuel tank in some corner of their land in the event they run low on fuel and dont want to goto town for it during the middle of the day. I know of one farmer who had a 2000gal propain tank burried near his farm equip shop and then ran his refil line INTO his shop so no one would know it was there. I grew up with his son or i wouldnt know about it.
Many or most Animal medicines can be used for humans, I have first hand experience and Im still livin (just a lil crazy though)

Thank you VERY much, Yeoman!

It's stuff like what you're observing that provokes rethinking about what we see...or think we see.

The Marines call it "primary vision" meaning never assume you know what you think you are seeing.

Good job, Hoodlum!

Kurt.
Noticed a defibrillator at the dentists yesterday. They had it hanging on the wall for 3 years, charged and all, the secretary said after subtle inquiry.
Good one on the defib.

Every school bus I've ever seen has an axe, fire extinguisher and first aid kit.
-bus barns have tools, chemicals, fuel ect ect

- all green houses have chemicals for... w/e

- lockers have chew, smokes, food, $, lighters ect. - Science rooms have chemicals and fire

- The teachers workrooms have food and even scissors in a desk drawer can serve as a makeshift knife

- Kitchens have bulk food, pans and knives but really not much else

- basball sheds or sports sheds usually have a 4 wheeler for field up keep (and if your lucky in emp its pullstart)

- If new constuction is on a whole wide variety of things open up.

-Concession stand (if seperate from cafeteria) have food, junk but its food

- Janitors closets have tp and paper towels

-office may have drwers with who knows what in confiscated goods over the year

-locker rooms usually have chew, smokes, change of clothes (hopefully clean)

- library, music room, comp lab pretty useless from what I see

any aditions welcome

my 2 cents
In the commercial areas of town you can find tons wood pallets that can be used for fire and shelter.

Machine shops will have all the tools you need
dibs!
